At around 8:25 am Thursday morning, Starship, SpaceX's Rocket Ship, shook the ground of South Padre Island and elevated into space, marking the company's third test flight. Spring break visitors, along with island residents staying to witness the launch, gazed into the cloudy sky with anticipation and excitement as SpaceX continued its progress on flights intended to carry astronauts to the moon and eventually to Mars.
This test flight is hailed as the most successful yet, as the ship remained in orbit for nearly an hour before communication was lost.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson congratulated SpaceX with a tweet, hailing the test flight as a success.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk has announced plans for six Starbase test launches this year, a significant increase from the two conducted in 2023.
