Tiki Condos Continue Tradition of Law Enforcement stays During Spring Break

by Jeremy Bochniak

While Spring Break brings excitement to South Padre Island, residents and vacationers share a common concern: public safety.

For years, South Padre has been known for incidents that raised safety issues. However, the city and its management have effectively addressed this concern. Additionally, The Tiki Condominiums, an SPI landmark and one of the island's earliest-built condominiums, have taken proactive measures to enhance safety for their predominantly family-oriented guests and property owners during the island's busiest week. As part of an agreement with the city of SPI, they offer discounted rates for out-of-town law enforcement to stay on their property.

The Tiki, having celebrated 50 years on South Padre Island in 2023, has actively facilitated the presence of extra law enforcement personnel during Spring Break to aid with the week's activities.

General Manager Melissa Perez has upheld this tradition since assuming her role two years ago, noting its significant contribution to enhancing property security.

Perez emphasizes the program's immense benefits to The Tiki during Spring Break, particularly due to its proximity to popular venues such as Clayton's and Bar Louie, as well as its public beach access, which necessitates heightened security measures.

Security operations at The Tiki commence at 2 pm and extend until 4 am throughout the entire week. Law enforcement personnel are granted access to amenities such as the library for snacks and breaks, remaining on standby until needed for an incident. Moreover, they are authorized to assist outside the property if required elsewhere.

Whether you're visiting this year or planning a future Spring Break trip, Perez assures families of a secure environment at The Tiki. The condominiums prioritize a family-oriented atmosphere and provide family-friendly accommodations within close proximity to major events.

"The Tiki stresses a family-oriented atmosphere and we have seen a shift in that direction over the years," Perez said. "We offer family friendly accommodations with close proximity to big events."
