The Special Events Committee for the City of South Padre Island convened its monthly meeting, offering residents a glimpse of three significant summer events. Here are key highlights from the gathering:
The SPI Beach Bash Skate Jam returns for its third consecutive year following a highly successful 2023 event. Event representatives announced that Monster and Death Liquid, prominent marketing firms in the skating community, are joining as sponsors to enhance the event's appeal and offer better gift giveaways. Plans are underway to potentially transform the event into a weekend showcase at the Convention Centre as it continues to grow. The Special Events Committee allocated $2,000 for marketing purposes. The Skate Jam is slated for June 21 at John L. Thompkins Park.
The rapidly expanding Ron Hoover Fishing Tournament makes its return to South Padre Island on July 12th-13th at the South Padre Island Convention Centre. The tournament features a full day of fishing competition on Saturday, followed by an award ceremony headlined by the Randy Rogers Band. Prizes include over $40,000 in Door Prizes and two opportunities to win a brand-new boat. The Special Events Committee allocated $15,000 for marketing efforts. Event representatives expressed the possibility of South Padre Island becoming the host for a regional event during major tournaments with increased resources. An additional $1,000 was allocated by the Committee for marketing purposes. To sign up or learn more about the tournament, visit their website.
