Spring Break 2024: By The Numbers

by Jeremy Bochniak

Spring Break ranks among the busiest periods of the year for South Padre Island, and insight into this year's activities has emerged. SPI engaged Predictive Data Lab, a tracking company, to monitor visitor traffic to the island. The firm presented its findings for March 2024, specifically focusing on Spring Break, during the Convention and Visitors Advisory Board Meeting (CVAB) on April 24.

Throughout March, South Padre Island recorded 1,006 reservations, encompassing Semana Santa, when Mexican residents visit the island to observe Holy Week with their families ahead of Easter Sunday, which fell earlier than usual, on March 31.

From March 8 to March 24, the island welcomed over 77,000 visitors. Predictive Data Lab utilized Device ID data to pinpoint visitor origins, revealing that 70,000 came from Texas, with 50,000 originating from the Rio Grande Valley alone. Additionally, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas each contributed over 3,500 visitors to the island.

During the peak of Spring Break, SpaceX conducted its third test launch on March 14, drawing over 11,000 visitors to witness the event.
