Deadline for Property Appraisal Protest is Approaching

by Jeremy Bochniak

Property owners in Cameron County have until May 15th to contest their 2024 property appraisals.

Last year, Cameron County witnessed a surge in property owners disputing their appraisal values, resulting in estimated savings of over $18 million for property owners

.

The Cameron County Appraisal District has sent notices by mail to property owners whose 2024 appraisals have increased compared to 2023.

According to information provided during a customer service call to Island Matters, property owners whose 2024 appraisals remain the same as 2023 will not receive a paper appraisal by mail. However, the deadline to contest the appraisal value remains May 15th, regardless of whether the value has changed.
