The South Padre Island Police Department provided the following incidents from May 19th through May 26th, 2024. Reports are lightly edited for reading purposes.
5/19 - The officer responded to the 100 block of Hibiscus Street about a possible drunk driver. After investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of weapons, passenger was also arrested for public intoxication. No time of the report was given
5/19 - At approximately 2:23 a.m., officers responded to 1000 Padre Blvd about a male subject causing a disturbance and threatening on-site security. A 44-year-old intoxicated male was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
5/20 - At approximately 7:51 p.m., SPI officers and fire department personnel were dispatched to the rear dumpster at 2600 Padre Boulevard (Beach Club Plaza) about a dumpster fire. Upon arrival, emergency personnel observed large flames coming out of a dumpster enclosure and the wooden fence planks of the enclosure and nearby fence line were on fire. SPIFD soon arrived and fire department personnel extinguished the fire.
Contact was made with an intoxicated male subject in the street outside Tequila Sunset Bar located at 200 West Pike about a reported disturbance. The subject was found to have appeared in a public place while intoxicated to the degree that he may endanger himself or another and was placed under arrest and charged with Public Intoxication before being transported to and booked into the South Padre Island City Jail. No time or date of the report was given.
5/23 - At approximately 12:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to 3509 Padre Boulevard the Whataburger about a silent panic alarm. Officers contacted the manager who advised a group of teens were causing a disturbance. Officers placed two individuals a male 17 years of age and a female 17 years of age under arrest for public intoxication by a minor.
5/24 - At approximately 11:48 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet pick-up truck on the 100 block of West Palm Street. Investigation revealed that the male driver had drug paraphernalia and was subsequently placed under arrest.
5/25 - At approximately 6:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Beach Park located at 33261 Park Road 100 Road about a vehicle being burglarized. Officers made contact with subjects who had items stolen from their vehicles.
5/25 - At approximately 12:25 a.m., while patrolling the 100 Block of West Palm Boulevard, officers observed a female urinating near a bush. A 21-year-old female was placed under arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct (exposure).
5/25 - At approximately 12:07 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop with a black SUV at the 7000 block of Padre Boulevard. A DWI investigation was conducted and the operator was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The operator was transported to the South Padre Island City Jail where he was booked and processed properly.
5/25 - At approximately 5:30 p.m., South Padre Island Officers were advised via radio by the Cameron County Park Rangers of a male subject passed out on a slingshot at the 1100 block of State Park Road 100. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the male subject who was passed out on the slingshot. Investigation revealed that the male subject appeared in a public place while intoxicated, being a danger to himself or others. The male subject was placed under arrest and transported to South Padre Island city jail for booking and processing.
5/25 - At around 4:44 p.m., the officer was dispatched to Breakaway Cruises, located at 33384 State Park 100, about a property damage/civil matter. The incident was documented as requested by the caller.
5/25 - At approximately 7:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to 33261 Street Highway 100 about a burglary of a vehicle. Upon arrival, contact was made with the reporting party and an investigation was conducted. After the investigation, a person committed an offense of burglary of a vehicle class A misdemeanor.
5/26 - At approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to the 6200 block of Padre Boulevard about a verbal disturbance. Investigation revealed that a male subject committed an offense when he appeared in a public place while intoxicated and under the legal drinking age. A male subject was placed under arrest for public intoxication and transported to the South Padre Island city jail for booking and processing.
5/26 - At approximately 9 p.m., while securing the public restrooms at the 100 block of West Huisache Street, they located graffiti on the inside walls of the restrooms. Investigation revealed that an unknown subject committed an offense because, without the effective consent of the owner, the person made markings with paint or a marker.
