The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s marine labs conduct weekly bacterial levels during the summer to ensure the safety of residents and tourists who want to spend their time enjoying the ocean. The bacterial levels identified by the marine lab were generated by the General Land Office (GLO).
The levels posted are for the week of June 10th. CFU stands for Colonizing Forming Units, a fancy way of saying bacteria that have been identified. Under 35 CFU is low, 35-104 is medium, and over 104 is high. Anything over 104 cfu is considered unsafe water to be in.
