Despite the looming threat of Tropical Storm Albert, SPI Skate Jam founder Ruby Gamez, Production House, and TCA Media demonstrated unwavering commitment. They maintained constant communication with competitors and sponsors, monitoring the weather app every 30 minutes in the days leading up to the event. Their determination to proceed with the event, despite the uncertain weather, was nothing short of a miracle.
Some skaters had to miss the competition due to the weather affecting not only South Padre Island but also areas like Corpus Christi and Kingsville. However, that did not stop Gamez and her team from putting on a great show for everyone who had been looking forward to the event for months.
Gamez noted a consistent crowd of 150 people at the June 21st event, creating a lively and upbeat atmosphere. The overwhelming feedback and support from spectators, some of whom are already eager to contribute to next year’s event, have inspired Gamez and her team. They are considering exciting additions for future events, such as a new division for rollerbladers, continuous live entertainment, and a variety of food vendors to cater to competitors and spectators.
