Dear friends and colleagues, We are pleased to share with you this month's newsletter, which focuses on the activities of the ISEE Student and New Researchers Network. |
What is the Student and New Researchers Network (SNRN) of ISEE?
|
|
|
|
The SNRN is open to all students, postdoctoral trainees, and new researchers (who have fewer than 5 years of experience from their terminal degree) in the field of environmental epidemiology or other related disciplines. |
|
|
The mission of the ISEE SNRN is to promote contact and collaboration among students and new researchers, enable connections between SNRN members and senior researchers, and facilitate the engagement of SNRN members in ISEE activities. SNRN members come from all over the world with the goal of creating a global network of students and new researchers. How to become a SNRN member? All students and early career researchers already members of the ISEE are automatically members of the SNRN. It does not require additional dues.
For more information about the SNRN and our goals, please visit our Website, X (formally known as Twitter), and LinkedIn pages or contact us via email at snrn@iseepi.org.
Your experience is important to us and we would love to hear from you. Do you have any questions? What would you like to see in future newsletters? Let us know how we can best represent you. Click here to share your thoughts with us. |

The SNRN is proud to present EPILOG, a webinar series that showcases the voices and perspectives of recent PhD graduates and postdoctoral fellows in environmental epidemiology. Following the success of last year's EPILOG series, we launched Series 2 in 2024!
The three webinars of the year were: ”Beyond the PhD: Exploring Career Paths In and Out of Academia” in March
“The Conference Playbook: Strategies for Presenting, Networking, and Managing Expectations” in May “Mindset Matters: Prioritizing Mental Health in the PhD Experience” in July
Thanks again to all the panelists for sharing their experiences and to the many participants who made this new series a success!
Did you miss the webinars? You can watch the replays of the first two seminars here:"Beyond the PhD" webinar and "The Conference Playbook" webinar.

We are excited to announce that our SNRN social networking event this year promises to be as memorable as last year's gathering in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 2023, we had the pleasure of hosting approximately 100 SNRN conference attendees on a ferry trip to the Sunset Bar on Cijin Island. This year, we're planning a similarly engaging event with networking possibilities on Monday, August 26, at 20:00. We'll be convening at a popular local bar in Santiago close to the conference venue, where SNRN will sponsor drinks and food for all attendees.
SNRN members will receive an email with details and a link to register for this event. The link will also be available on the ISEE conference webpage and the ISEE SNRN 2024 WhatsApp announcement group (see below on how to join this group). We strongly encourage you to check the web page regularly and register promptly to secure your spot, as we have a cap on the maximum number of participants. Furthermore, please note, that as last year, this event is for SNRN members exclusively and registration will close a few days before the event. We cannot guarantee availability for those who haven't registered in advance. We look forward to seeing you there!

From June 5 to 7, 2024, the ISEE Europe Chapter organized the 5th edition of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology Young Investigators Conference (ISEE-Young) in Rennes. Nearly 300 participants, mostly PhD students and early-career researchers from 27 countries, were able to attend 8 pre-conference workshops, 5 exciting plenary sessions and 8 (not so) early morning sessions, as well as present their results in 18 traditional oral sessions and 12 speed talk sessions, and develop their network. This year's event focused on Eastern Europe, and the next edition of the conference will be held in Poland.
During the conference three early career researchers were awarded for their abstracts: -
First prize: Yu Zhao “The role of fetoplacental hemodynamics in the association between prenatal traffic-related air pollution and birth weight”
- Second prize: Lucile Broséus “Placental epigenetic changes mediating the association between prenatal air pollution exposure and child lung function”
-
Third prize: Klara Gustin “Toxic metals and essential trace elements in placenta and their relation to placental function”
And after an intense competition, the audience voted for the three best speed talk presentations of the conference: -
First prize: Nina Pálešová “Firefighters' Exposure to Benzotriazoles and Benzothiazoles, and its Impact on Serum Lipids and Oxidative Stress”
- Second prize: Zeinab Bitar “Surrounding greenness and mental health: Findings from the French CONSTANCES cohort”
-
Third prize: Valentina Quintero Santofimio “Occupational exposures in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review”
Congratulations to them and to all of the participants for their amazing work!
You can watch (or rewatch) the keynotes and benefit from resources provided by the presenters of the workshops and early morning sessions at this link. |
ISEE Asia and Western Pacific Conference 2024

Important Note About the SNRN Email List
|
If you believe you qualify as a member of the SNRN but are not receiving emails from the SNRN committee (excluding this general all-members ISEE newsletter) ensure you are registered as a SNRN member by following these two steps: -
Use this link to be redirected to the ISEE website and enter your username and password or request a password reset.
-
After logging in, you will be redirecred to the Chapter/Committees/Cohorts page. Enter "SNRN" into the keyword search bar and click search. Under the description, if you are not a member, click on "Sign-up." If you are already a SNRN member, you will see "Enter Chapters/Committee/Cohorts area"
|
|
|
Important note for LMIC and Early Career members: If you have a subsidized membership (LMIC or Early Career) and qualify as an SNRN member, you must complete this registration step to receive SNRN-specific news. The ISEE system does not automatically recognize you as an SNRN member, even if you qualify. By following these steps, you'll ensure that you receive all relevant SNRN communications and stay informed about SNRN-specific activities and opportunities.
If you're still unsure, send an email to the ISEE Secretariat at secretariat@iseepi.org. |
