Greetings Dear Friends!
The IWWSG ’23-’24 meeting season (our 76th year!!) is now history! It was another very active year for the Group, with interesting speakers, some new dinner venues, two educational tours, another very deserving E. Ted Erickson “Distinguished Environmental Professional Award’ recipient, and an abundance of enthusiastic networking. We hope you were a participant this past year, and look forward to you joining us soon for the ’24-’25 meeting season. Your Steering Committee has already met once to begin planning the upcoming season!
A big “thank you” is extended to Circon Environmental (Reworld), for opening their Hodgkins waste processing facility on May 22 for a very informative tour (see recap below), as well as coordinating the follow-up dinner at Capri Ristorante (also recapped below), a very lively Italian venue that was much enjoyed. Thank you also to ALL our Members, especially our Industrial Members, whose active participation keeps IWWSG relevant and vibrant. And finally, I would like to thank the Steering Committee – your behind-the-scenes commitment of time and effort in planning and carrying out our events is much appreciated.
Hope to see you at the first meeting of the season 9.18.24. (See Save the Date below for info) |

May 22 Circon/Covanta Tour Recap |
IWWSG’s busy ’23-’24 Membership Year concluded with another great event -- a May 22 tour of Circon Environmental (recently rebranded as Reworld), an active waste processing facility in Hodgkins, IL. On a beautiful blue-sky afternoon, Steering Committee Member Lazaro Lopez IV, and other members of the Circon crew, provided a very detailed & informative walk-through tour of the facility. |

Immediately following the Circon tour, a networking dinner was held at the nearby Capri Ristorante in Burr Ridge; the bustling venue certainly lived up to its reputation of serving great Italian food while providing great service. |

Call for Volunteers for IWWSG Involvement |
After much thoughtful discussion, the current SC has concluded that the upcoming year needs to be a “transitional” year, with a key goal, as the year proceeds, of incorporating new individuals into active leadership & participation in IWWSG’s challenging day-to-day operations. Keeping IWWSG’s established dynamic post-pandemic momentum going is key to the long-term future strength of the Group. Thanks to several members who have already expressed interest in getting involved in the Group’s operations during the upcoming year. Please contact Barb if you'd like to be part of this dynamic group. No particular experience necessary, WE NEED YOU! :)
