PREPARING YOUR HEAD START IMMIGRANT FAMILIES |
It's important to Know Your Rights when it comes to interacting with immigration enforcement. These are everyone's Constitutional Rights. These rights apply to all people, regardless of immigration status, within the United States whether at home, in your workplace, or at a Head Start program. These include: - The right to refuse entry to one's home, workplace, or childcare center.
- The right to refuse searches without a valid warrant.
-
The right to remain silent.
-
The right to refuse to sign documents.
-
The right to refuse to give information about immigration status, place of birth, criminal history, and one's familys' whereabouts.
Because migrant families are eligible for the Head Start programs, Head Start centers could be a target for immigration enforcement, especially during drop-off/pick-up times. IHSA has just launched an Immigration Resources page with critical information, resources, and support to prepare your Head Start families AND staff.

IHSA SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES IN CRISIS |
|
|
|
The devastating events affecting communities across the country are felt deeply by all of us. We share in the pain and heartache of those who have lost so much—homes, schools, livelihoods, and even lives. The path to recovery is long and challenging, but together, we can make a difference. To raise awareness and inspire action, IHSA has added this page to our website to highlight the urgent and ongoing needs of impacted communities. Through our network, we are sharing information on ways to contribute and provide meaningful support to those affected. |

One of our EHS programs, the Nesbitt Center in Altadena, and two of our provider homes have burned to the ground; and 6 Provider homes have been severely damaged. Seven families have lost their homes completely. One of our staff members has also lost their home and another is still waiting to find out. In total, 70 families and 13 staff members have been displaced and 130 families impacted.
