Message from your Chair

Hello Dear Friends!

Our ’24-’25 meeting year is our 77th!!  While this milestone is certainly noteworthy and should be celebrated, it also imposes a challenge and responsibility on the Group to keep it vibrant, relevant, and successful.  It is well known that, post-pandemic, many professional groups have struggled to maintain membership, meeting attendance, and a full meeting schedule.  IWWSG has faced these headwinds during the past three years, and, while we hope to (and need to!!) grow the Group, I am pleased to report that IWWSG is strong today!

Members:  IWWSG needs you and would be unable to continue to provide our slate of programming (speakers, networking opportunities, tours, great venues) and educational offerings without the continued support of our members.  To all the industrial companies, individuals, consultants, law firms, agencies, service companies & others that contribute to the success of IWWSG, we very much appreciate you!

Volunteers:  IWWSG is fueled by our many tremendous volunteers who annually contribute invaluable hours to support the Group.  I am grateful to you for the work we do together, for the success we have accomplished, and for the future we are building.

We had a very successful February Joint Pretreatment Meeting at Grill 89 in Westmont with IWEA! An excellent panel of pretreatment coordinators, contract laboratories and consultants facilitated a group discussion on timely and important pretreatment and regulatory topics.  (See photo recap below, courtesy of photographer Ted Denning.)

The April 16 membership meeting IWWSG will welcome Nancy Tuchman, PhD, the Dean of the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) at Loyola University Chicago, as presenter.  The meeting will be held at Pompei Restaurant, 1531 W Taylor St, Chicago, IL 60607.  (See below for details.)

At our April 16 membership meeting, the 28th recipient of the E. Ted Erickson “Distinguished Environmental Professional” Award will be announced!!  (See below for details.)  The IWWSG Steering Committee candidates for 2025-2026 will also be revealed!

Even if you haven’t participated recently, we invite you to join us and be a part of our Group!  We appreciate your paid memberships, attendance at meetings/events, and other support.  Thank you!!

I look forward to seeing you on April 16th!

Cheers!

February Membership Meeting Photo Recap

On Wednesday, January 15, IWWSG made a repeat visit to Grill 89 in Westmont for a very informative & timely panel presentation on important pretreatment and regulatory topics.

April Membership Meeting

At its April 16 membership meeting, IWWSG will welcome Nancy Tuchman, PhD, the Dean of the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) at Loyola University Chicago, as presenter.  She will discuss “Achieving Carbon Neutrality: Transitioning to an Environmentally Sustainable Campus at Loyola University Chicago“.  Tuchman's vision for SES is to raise public awareness of the unsustainable consumption of Earth's natural resources and production of pollution waste with the goal of transforming behavior, developing policy, and inspiring and preparing the next generation of science-based environmental leaders.  Loyola has just developed its new Carbon Action Plan which strives to decarbonize its campuses. The plans for implementing and achieving the ambitious environmental goals set by Loyola University Chicago are transferrable to businesses, villages/cities and personal homes.  The meeting will be held at Pompei Restaurant, 1531 W Taylor St, Chicago, IL 60607.

Meeting registration is now open. Go to HERE.

2025 DEP Award Recipient Announcement

At IWWSG’s April 16 membership meeting, the 28th recipient of the E. Ted Erickson “Distinguished Environmental Professional” Award will be announced!!

The Award was established by the IWWSG in 2000 to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution(s) in the environmental area, especially at the local and regional levels.  This award, bestowed only when merited, acknowledges a specific breakthrough (such as an environmental improvement or activity having a significant environmental impact) or achievement (such as a cooperative effort between industry, regulatory agencies and/or local government) that has benefited the community of environmental professionals.  Achievements must have impacted the environmental field, and have been verified and recognized by peers.
