How to Shop During a Quarantine?
Try some technology!

Grocery shopping used to be a great time to relax and look around as we wander around the aisles, letting grocery goodies call out to you and tell you what you need, even though it's not on your list.

Have you been to the grocery store lately?  During these difficult times, it's easy to get carried away with going a little overboard with grocery shopping.  Six bottles of alcohol at once?  You just never know.  Whatever the case might be, it's safe to say that the public accidentally overbought A LOT.

H-E-B, Blue Marlin, and a group of health professionals are doing whatever they can to help us get what we need…without hoarding.  H-E-B has posted tweets keeping their company all on the same page. Here’s an update on the changes Texas grocery stores are going to begin to be implemented in the next coming weeks.

Updates on Changes

Although store managers could not make a statement without HEB approval, Island Matters sent H-E-B a list of questions. An unrelated, but helpful, link to a press release regarding H-E-B encouraging their partners to wear masks and gloves was sent in return.

South Padre Island's local grocery store The Blue Marlin has had a favorable report. Other than the toilet paper and paper towel restrictions, Sanchez stated that "We serve everybody from wherever. We are open from 7:30 am-8 pm. People have been coming from Harlingen, Brownsville, and all over to come here because we are stocked. The meat section is full, the produce, the bakery, and we're good on eggs. We get shipments every day, and the corporations make sure us little stores get whatever we need."

The Washington Post published an article, "Go grocery shopping every two weeks? You can - without hoarding."  Shopping every two weeks with a plan using the Omni Food Calculator is an excellent tool created by a dietician and a team of health professionals to help gauge the amount of food that would be helpful and prevent hoarding.
