City Council Emergency Meeting
15/4/2020
What happened:
An emergency City Council Meeting was planned and posted at 11:15 a.m. April 14, 2020, to start on the same day at 12:15 p.m.
After an hour-long closed executive session, the discussion of possible action regarding COVID-19 and the welfare of the South Padre Island Community resulted in no action taken.
Before adjourning, McNulty announced, "We're going to hold off doing additional actions until after we get a full report from these various press conferences and conference calls as to any additional measures regarding COVID-19 virus and the welfare of SPI community."
Why it matters:
The one-hour notice left very little time for the public to react, give feedback, or address the Council at the podium during a shelter-in-place government order.
During the City Council meeting, Mayor Patrick McNulty stressed the importance of Island residents filling out the 2020 Census, "That would be a great benefit to SPI and Cameron county as a whole."
