After 4 years we are excited to pass along the news that the Wind and Water Sports Park project is moving ahead to fruition! This is a chance for anybody who is interested to submit comments.
"For accuracy and completeness of the record, all data in support of or in opposition to the proposed work should be submitted in writing setting forth sufficient detail to furnish a clear understanding of the reasons for support or opposition."
- Army Corps of Engineers in their Public Notice
What happened:
According to The City of South Padre Island's website, on November 8, 2016, an election was held by voters to authorize the city to provide for "the planning, design, improvement, and development of a sports and community venue project." Since then, the city entered into a leasing agreement to develop the Wind and Water Sports Park. The park is said to "increase access to the Laguna Madre while decreasing wetland damages."
Why it matters:
The U.S Army Corps of Engineers issued a notice as of July 30, 2020, to solicit comments from the public to "better enable us to make a reasonable decision on factors affecting the public interest."
What now:
The public has until August 31, 2020, to submit comments to the U.S Army Corps of Engineers.
