Several people on South Padre Island sought answers and more information concerning the drive-through vaccination clinics open only for individuals 65 years of age and older in Cameron County.
After calling the Cameron County COVID-19 helpline, the health personnel told Island Matters that the City of SPI and Laguna Vista was using a “lottery system” and that citizens should contact the City for more information on functionality.
After receiving many inquiries, Island Matters turned to City Secretary/PIO Nikki Soto for answers.
Island Matters asked: What is the relationship between the vouchers and the mass drives through clinics?
Soto answered: The City receives the vouchers from the County to distribute for their vaccination clinics.
Island Matters asked: Is there a portal where people who have registered can see the list?
Soto answered: The City would not publish the registration as it is health-related, and some may not want their personal information for all to see.
Island Matters sent more questions to Mrs. Soto to seek clarification. Mrs. Soto has not yet responded, but as soon as she responds, Island Matters will publish her answers immediately.
- Is SPI doing a “lottery system,” and if so, how does the system work?
-
If it’s not the lottery system, is it first come, first serve?
- Will residents be notified when they get picked?
- How often do residents have to check with the City to seek available vouchers?
- How do they sign up for information when it’s available?
Today, a Press Release from the office of Cameron County’s Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. announced the City of Harlingen is hosting their second dose, while many still struggle to get their first.
