Website Update, New Cigar Bar, and More! Rockin' Cigar Bar @ 3rd Coast Cigar bar owner Frank Ricci Jr and wife Rashell Ricci are opening their 4th Rockin' Cigar Bar and Grill this coming week to kick off the Labor Day holiday. "It's reminiscent of the CBGB's, which was a bar from New York. So, Blondie, and The Ramones, and all these bands from the punk rock era come from there," said Ricci.
Ricci's bars have names reflective of their location, starting with three of the Rockin' Bar Grills in El Paso. "Our first one was called 'RCBG @ Cincinnati' since it was on Cincinnati Avenue. The 2nd one is RCBG @ Thunderbird, and that location is in an area called thunderbird. For example, the high school's mascot was the Thunderbird. Then we went to the east side of El Paso, and that's the eastern bloc. That bar is our Soviet Union bar, so it's all red, there's AK 47's on the wall, soviet flags, it's a fun little play on the USSR," said Ricci.
Upon his search of the location to his 4th bar and finding nothing in the Port Aransas or Corpus Christi area, "We decided to come to South Padre Island, and we almost didn't," he revealed. Attracted to the shores of South Padre Island, Ricci, and his wife Rashell decided to plant their 4th location of their RCBG on the island, ultimately giving its name RCBG @ 3rd Coast.
"When people ask, why 3rd coast," said Ricci, "well we have the east coast, west coast, third coast, that's one thing, the other is that the history of this building is that there was a bar called "The 3rd Coast."
The Menu The menu will include fresh burgers, pizza, and wings. "The pizza is hand-tossed, and everything is made here. The burgers are made fresh they're never frozen, and the wings are the biggest wings you can get. We have many sauces, and we're kind of known for our wings."
The Largest Humidor on the Island Cigar Bar and Grill will also be home to the only walk-in humidor on the island and the largest. "We'll have the only walk-in humidor on the island. So, if we wanted to call it a cigar store, we'd be the only cigar store on the island. I have lots of room for growth inside there, and when we open up, I have a lot of cigars ready to go." Games/Events As far as games and events, Ricci mentions pool tables, darts, and corn hole, "We'll have pool tables and darts and jukebox upstairs. Downstairs we'll have music videos, and upstairs we'll have different music" "we'll have different music on each floor."
Hours and Location Address: 5908 Padre Blvd Hours: 11AM – 2AM
In the future, he plans to have a piano, comedy, and open mic nights.
For now, Ricci commented he and his wife are looking forward to getting to know the people in the area. "We're delighted to be a part of the community. I know my wife in time will probably want to buy a house or condo here, and her majority of the time is going to want to be here." Our team is proud to announce the step in the growth of our non-profit digital newspaper. Starting today, POWC has a new website at https://www.powcspi.org and Island Matters has its own website at www.islandmatters.org. Since both POWC and Island Matters are becoming separate non-profits, the next step was to represent that online.
As Island Matters goes through this transition period, developing an independent website is necessary to take the proper steps to connect with our subscribers and other news organizations.
Please make sure your email is set to accept email from islandmatters.org. We don’t want to get lost in your spam folder! Stay tuned for more announcements and changes as Island Matters continues to grow! Wednesday
