Shoreline Task Force: Parking on Gulf Blvd. What happened: Tuesday, November 9th, the Shoreline Task Force went over possible wording changes to regulate parking on Gulf Blvd. for vehicles with trailers or anything that takes up more than one parking space.
Why it matters: City Attorney Edmond Cyganiewicz says the clarification will prohibit any type of vehicle with or without a trailer that does not fit within a standard space on Gulf Blvd. or any of the beach accesses.
Ultimately Cyganiewicz added the decision to make the recommendation was up to the board and highlighted their discussion would change Chapter 18 of the city’s ordinances.
Vice-Chair Rob Nixon brought this forward due to many overnight trailers parked in multiple spots overnight on public beach access spots along Gulf Blvd.
Task Force Chair, Virginia Guillot, added, "I think the concern is the people who abuse the public parking spaces. (They) either have a vehicle with a trailer (with) a boat, jet skis, etc. It's obvious that's their permanent parking spot."
A question on whether it would be fair to say no trailers, period, was voiced by Task Force member Abbie Mahan. "Would we be limiting or restricting people from accessing the beach?"
What now: City Manager Randy Smith recommended the Shoreline Task Force have a workshop due to the complexity of the decision. Nixon motioned to have a workshop on December 14th.
