City Council passed a motion Wednesday November 17, 2021 designating Councilman Schwartz as the New Mayor Pro-Tem, whose predecessor was Councilman Joseph Ricco.
City Council Report Announcement
What happened: Mayor Patrick McNulty announced the resignation of Conventions & Visitors Bureau Director Ed Caum, who held the position since March 2019.
Why it matters: To ensure a smooth transition, Caum will remain a consultant to the city over the next few months. McNulty added the entire staff wishes Mr. Caum the best of luck and truly appreciates all his hard work dedication and commitment to our community, however the City continues to bleed talent.
What now: McNulty assured attendees the City has been reaching out to several firms, and has a list of people who are ready to come work for SPI. "Our lines are ringing and we've got lots of applications, and we'll get this going to have a much better program here soon."
5.1)
What happened: A Motion to authorize the City Manager to approve the lease agreement for the Chamber of Commerce to become a tenant in the Robert N. Pinkerton Jr. building, also known as Island Metro Multimodal Facility. Motion passed.
Why it matters: The Chamber of Commerce's former building, which is owned by the city, is becoming a history museum.
What now: The Chamber will now be located inside the transit center, next to the Convention Center's Visitors Center, and looks forward to their ribbon cutting in January.

What happened: Recommendation to move forward and work with LJA Engineering for the engineering and permitting services for the boat ramp that will be constructed on Marisol St. with Restore Act Funds. Motion passed.
What now: The Shoreline Director Kristina Boburka, expects to extend the grant, and says that the construction will take up to a year and a half.

What happened: Approve budget amendment for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Boating Access grant. Motion passed.
Why it matters: Grant funds are over $140,000, and the city’s local match funds will be just under $46,800 according to Shoreline Director Kristina Boburka.

What happened: Discussion and possible action to approve the Travel Texas Co-Op marketing buy for FY 2022. (Caum) The total amount is $67,075. Motion passed.
Why it matters: This maximizes the funding for digital marketing.

What happened: Discussion and possible action to approve budget amendment (of $97,315.05) from the General Fund Excess Reserves to fund the City Hall Campus Security Project. Motion passed.
5.6)
What happened: Discussion and possible action to approve budget amendment from the General Fund Excess Reserves Fund to fund the Tompkins Park Bocee Ball Court Relocation Project. Motion passed.
Why it matters: The current location of the Bocce Ball interferes with the clearance requirement/safety zone of the soccer fields. The court will be relocated to the east end of Tompkins Park.
