Achieving Carbon Neutrality
Transitioning to an Environmentally Sustainable Campus
at
Loyola University Chicago

Description

In 2002, Loyola University Chicago (LUC) made a public commitment to transition to an environmentally sustainable University with three major goals: 1) to educate all students, regardless of their majors, on the basic environmental issues of this century, 2) to achieve carbon neutrality on its three Chicago region campuses, and 3) to build a School of Environmental Sustainability where students are trained to become environmental leaders in the work force. Twenty-three years later, LUC has achieved each of these goals and is now considered one of leading universities on the environment. Loyola has just developed its new Carbon Action Plan which strives to decarbonize its campuses. The plans for implementing and achieving the ambitious environmental goals set by Loyola University Chicago are transferable to businesses, villages/cities and personal homes.
