Join us in Seattle, WA for the 2023 DBIA Transportation/Aviation Conference!

There’s nothing in the nation like DBIA’s annual Design-Build for Transportation/Aviation Conference. This year, this event is even more important!

With the passage of a historic federal infrastructure package, the transportation sector will see hundreds of billions in new project funding. Owners are looking for qualified design-build teams to deliver innovative projects on time and budget.

Design-build is all about teamwork, collaboration, and innovation. The importance of these three key elements was ever-present in the successful completion of the renovation and addition of the Sie Glass Rotunda to the iconic Denver Art Museum. While not technically a design-build project, the team of Denver Art Museum (Owner), Fentress (Architect), and Saunders (General Contractor) came together to forge a mutually respectful partnership enabling unique and complex problem-solving. Many challenges faced the team as they renovated the original Gio Ponti-designed Lanny & Sharon Martin Building (formerly the North Building initially constructed in 1971) and added on the new Anna & John J. Sie Welcome Center.

This project had everything one hoped for when first entering our people-centric industry: An ownership team made up of the right people, behind-the-scenes team bonding between the architect and contractor, and a “project first” approach from everyone throughout the entire process. The tools and skills each team member brought from previous Design-Build projects allowed each of them to show up every day, from early design through to construction completion, to create a truly integrated team.

Join us Tuesday, March 14th, for an in-depth presentation, project tour, and reception to learn more about the project-specific challenges and how teamwork, collaboration, and innovation lead to successful outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the Design-Build Best Practices that support team collaboration.
  2. Understand the practical application of how team collaboration created success for the Denver Art Museum renovation and expansion.
  3. Identify team-building strategies to create a collaborative environment
  4. Identify strategies to foster a project-first decision-making process.

Join us in Seattle, WA for the 2023 DBIA Water/Wastewater Conference!

Passage of historic federal infrastructure funding means Owners will be searching for qualified design-build teams to deliver innovative projects efficiently. With $55 billion invested in water infrastructure, including funds for drinking-water and wastewater-treatment projects, America’s design-build teams stand ready to, once again as we did in 2009, roll up our sleeves and get to work building the infrastructure needed to revitalize our economy, communities and nation.

Leadership matters more than ever in the design-build process.  As projects become ever more complex, it is imperative that team leaders are equipped with the skills and attributes to leverage the integrated process.  The days of command-and-control styles of leadership are over if you intend to optimize the opportunities that design-build enables.  In this workshop, you will be introduced to the key characteristics that define a Design-Build Done Right leader.

Learning Objectives:  In this workshop, you will learn:

  1. What the one critical leadership competency is in achieving extraordinary results.
  2. How developing an integrated mindset is the key to effective leadership in design-build.
  3. How to leverage the assets, talents, and skills of a multi-disciplined team.
  4. What the gaps are between the leaders we have and the leaders in design-build project delivery.

Format: In Person

Speaker: Barbara Jackson, PhD, FDBIA
President and CEO, Barbara Jackson, LLC
