Communicating When Things Go Wrong
 - Presented by Emily Lindahl, Directorate of Public Affairs of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
No matter the line of business, organizations must understand their audiences, be it their own employees, consumers, clients, members, stakeholders, etc. Knowing audience interests, concerns, and motivations is key to planning strategic communication plans and marketing campaigns.
But when something goes wrong and time is of the essence, what changes?
There is critical information that must be delivered to the right people. There are additional elements and unique audience awareness that can affect how that critical content is delivered…and received.
Understanding your audiences, and how to best communicate to them in a crisis is more important than ever. Ever-changing technologies, social media platforms, and shifting demographics present challenges to all organizations.
Presentation Overview
  • What constitutes a crisis in today’s world?
  • The difference between regular communications and crisis communications
  • Timely, accurate or complete – making the choice
  • Acknowledging and managing audience expectations
  • Making your message accessible
  • After the crisis – planning the next step automation to avoid future disruption while continuing to scale and grow their organization.  The session will address these challenges and topics based on experience and subject matter expertise in guiding SMEs through these challenges over the last 2 years.
