Come join MWEA's New Professional Committee for a Mixer and Tour on Thursday, May 11th, 2023!
When: May 11th at 2:30PM, happy hour at 4PM
TOUR Address: Delhi POTW, 5961 McCue Rd, Holt, MI 48842 (Meet at Administration Building located southwest of the entrance gate off McCue Rd)
MIXER Address: Buddies Grill, 2040 Aurelius Rd, Unit 12, Holt, MI 48842
What: Plant tour of the Delhi POTW (Publicly Owned Treatment Works) with happy hour after. Wear sturdy, closed toed shoes. We will work our way upstream to downstream and end at the Anaerobic Digestion System.
Plant Description: The Township owns and operates 13 lift stations and the POTW. The POTW treats an average of 2.5 MGD with a peak capacity of 6.5 MGD. The treatment path includes influent screw pumps, 3mm perforated panel band screens, aerated grit removal, 2 primary clarifiers with enhanced co-settling with the addition of ferric chloride, 6 aeration tanks with aeration and mixing capabilities, 2 secondary clarifiers, nitrification tower, sodium hypochlorite disinfection and polishing lagoons for de-chlorination prior to discharging to the Grand River. The cosettled WAS and primary sludge is pumped to the anaerobic digestion system where it is combined with concentrated waste and pumped into the thermophilic digester(s) operating above 131F for a minimum of 3 hours to meet Class A biosolids requirements. After the thermophilic phase the biosolids are pumped to mesophilic digesters where the sludge is cooled down and the generated digester gas is captured, cleaned and used to run the boiler supplying heat for the thermophilic phase and leftover gas is compressed and fed to 2-30kW Microturbines for electricity generation. The generated electricity is used onsite to offset the electricity bill.
