Education / Experience:
Graduated from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technologies in 1994 from the Farrier Program. Prior to being challenged by the Farrier Program, I spent 1.5 yrs in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. Spent one year working in a farrier supply store before gaining the extreme privilege of working under Bud Willimon in Simpsonville, KY for approx 8 months. My time spent in Kentucky has turned out to be the most influencial experience of my career. Upon returning from Kentucky in 1996 I started additional work at a Young Offenders facility as a youth counselor, this was from 1996 to 1999. I continued working on what horses I could until leaving the facility and gaining a position with Barney Cummings of Mt. Albert, ON., this was from 1999 to 2003. Since that time I have been working full time as a Professional Farrier.

More Information:
Dave Dawson has been providing farrier service in Southern Ontario for more than twenty years. His knowledge and passion for podiatry and farriery is evident in all aspects of his work. Dave has a wide range of specialties in the competition horse world. He services the dressage, eventing, hunter, jumper and gaited disciplines at all levels in both Ontario and Florida.

Dave is a strong believer in continuing education and mentorship programs. There is never a time when Dave isnt involved in some variety of podiatry course, or mentoring at least one farrier apprentice. He always encourages those around him to seek formal education to make themselves and their businesses better.

Dave is a proud member of the American/Canadian Association of Professional Farriers (AAPF & CAPF), and the North Eastern Association of Equine Practitioners (NEAEP). He was part of the group who founded the AAPF, and is currently the Treasurer of the NEAEP. Dave is also a partner in BWD Equine Services Ltd which provides the team of farriers who service the Caledon Equestrian Park (Site of the 2015 Pan Am Games) and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (Toronto ON).

In all of this, Dave still finds time to pursue his passion to help others. His first taste of formal publication was released in October of 2013. He worked closely with author Garth Johns on the publication Common Sense Leadership: Equine Edition.

In his spare time, Dave can be found working on the farm or at the firehall, or with his wife Tina cheering their three children on at the hockey arena.
