The AAPF Board of Directors has awarded its first Honorary Membership to Mr. Larry Rumsby APF of Bromont, Quebec, Canada.
Larry is a well-known and respected farrier on the hunter/jumper circuit throughout the world. He has been the farrier for the Canadian Olympic Team and shod horses at many of the premier horse shoes in both Canada and the United States. For a number of years he was the farrier for Eric LaMaze's Hickstead. Hickstead has enjoyed a long career in show jumping including winning the gold medal at the Hong Kong Olympics in 2008, being named "Best Horse in the World" at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky. On November 6, 2011 at a competition in Italy, Hickstead collapsed shortly after finishing a round and died of an aortic rupture. The entire horse industry mourns this champion horse.
On Saturday, February 18, Larry was presented with a hand-made award made by AAPF Director Jennifer Horn APF CJF at a party given by Karen and Dave Farley APF CF at their residence near Wellington, Florida. Almost 100 farriers and their guests were in attendance for this surprise announcement.
His wife, Louise Mongeau owns the Marechalerie Bromont farrier supply store also in Bromont.
