Description:Climate change and severe weather events negatively impact mental health and well-being. Extreme heat and wildfire smoke are increasingly affecting communities in Washington state, however very few resources exist to address the mental health consequences. This presentation will (1) review the signs and risk factors for heat- and wildfire smoke-driven mental health challenges (2) discuss the unique vulnerabilities of youth to these exposures as well as the inequitable impacts to frontline communities; and (3) highlight pathways for healthcare provider communication and intervention.
