Thank you to everyone who took the opportunity to check-in at our virtual May GMM. Thank you to everyone who helped deliver flowers Mother's day weekend. We will continue partnering with Wild Strawberry Flowers and More for fundraising opportunities. We were able to conduct a can/bottle drive on behalf of Special Olympics Michigan. Thank you to everyone who came out to contribute or share the event. If you are interested in helping coordinate another drive for Special Olympics, or for our chapter, please reach out to Jessica Anderson. We encourage you all to keep checking our facebook group for opportunities to help and to share things with members you may find useful! We're all in this together and we're here to support you. If you have ideas for things you'd like to do as a group during this time, please contact your board. We have access to Zoom to help bring us together virtually. Continue staying strong and positive. If you need anything, know that your fellow Jaycees are here for you!
In this strange season of covid, some of our favorite local businesses are feeling the strain of reduced foot traffic and closures, but many are still offering online or curbside service. Participate in the "Spring Secret Santa: Covid Edition" to help out the small businesses you know and love and to connect with a fellow Jaycee! Submit the google form below by May 31 indicating your interests, your price range, and how your match can get the gift to you. You will be paired with a partner at your same price point and will be sent an email with their information by June 5. Get shopping and deliver your gift by June 15th so you and the recipient can share during the virtual happy hour immediately following the GMM on June 16th. Reach out to Laine at email@example.com with any questions.
The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has created havoc for many Michigan businesses; especially those involving contact with the public. Many of our partners have been affected by orders to close or change their business model for the time being. In an effort to give back, we've created a list of our partners along with their websites. We encourage you to help them in this time of need to be a patron as you are able or consider making a purchase of a gift card to be used later. Help our partners who have given so much to us over the years, in a time when they could use a helping hand!
Check out a list of our partners by clicking here.
***If you find any articles or posts that would be beneficial to all, please feel free to send to Jessica Anderson and she'll get it posted up on our JCI Lansing public facebook page to encourage community collaboration and support at this time.
"The biggest need we are hearing from our partners is from the Tri County Office on Aging who need drivers for meal delivery. Their congregate meal sites have been closed and they are relying more on in home delivery.
The best support is cash contributions to the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the Capital Area United Way has established an Emergency Fund to support our neighbors with cash assistance during this time. We will be building out this fund over the next few weeks and sub funds can be established (i.e. if you wanted to organize to support a specific neighborhood)
Finally, we are asking everyone to make an appt and give blood. We have a critical shortage because large blood drives have all been cancelled. Please schedule your appointment to donate bloodHEREusing your zip code to locate the closest location."
"Greater Lansing Food Bank will continue to serve our neighbors who are food insecure during these uncertain times." If you're looking for a way to support the local community through providing meals, or know someone in need, please visitGreater Lansing Food Bankfor details on how to help or how to get help.
Lansing Area Mutual Aid (LAMA) began in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic to directly match existing community resources to those in need of those resources, as quickly as possible. We are an expanding collection of individuals, businesses, and organizations that seek to ensure every resident in our area is in a place where their basic needs are accounted for, and that we as a community feel safe, empowered, and connected.
You may offer you services, request services, or donate financially to help LAMA operate during this time.
