BIO - Douglas May is currently the Senior Director responsible for Emergency Management Programs within Public Safety Canada.  His Public Service career has spanned 25 years, where he has lead on key files for the federal government associated with negotiations with First Nations, Intergovernmental Affairs, and research in support of strategies to counter crime.  In his current capacity, he is responsible for the administration of programs in support of emergency management planning, preparedness, response and recovery -- which includes support for business continuity management planning in federal institutions.


Presentation  Title - Business Continuity Management (BCM) in the Government of Canada

Synopsis - This presentation will highlight the main elements of A Government of Canada Guide for Developing a Business Continuity Management Program (the Guide), and other Public Safety Canada (PS) initiatives that support federal institutions in matters related to business continuity management (BCM).

As per the Policy on Government Security (PGS) and Directive on Security Management (DSM), PS is responsible for providing technical advice and guidance to federal institutions on BCM.

  • Participants will learn about recent Public Safety Canada initiatives in support of the BCM in federal institutions. They will be invited to a discussion on how to strengthen their BCM programs in alignment with the policy requirements and best practices.
