Although in E minor, Dance is quite a sprightly little tune for four Recorders and optional percussion. It was performed at several lunchtime concerts by Fipple Flutes Four at the New Zealand Correspondence School (Te Kura) and recorded at Radio New Zealand’s main broadcasting studios in Wellington.

Almost hypnotic in its repetitions, this quasi-chaconne with optional percussion is in a relaxed tempo and an easy key. Soprano and Tenor players get to work on their high B in a couple moments; otherwise it falls in the comfortable range of all the instruments and features delicious open fifths, E-B-E. A listen to the recording will show that the percussion part is just a sketch indicating a general direction of what’s possible.
