Erich Katz stands as one of the foremost figures in the Early Music revival in America, and his leadership role in ARS.This suite is scored for Soprano I, Soprano II or Alto reading up and octave, and Alto or Tenor. In keeping with the spirit of Early Music, and in view of the fact that Katz often rewrote or led performances of his compositions with changed instrumentation, he would have welcomed experimentation with different textures and sounds. However the third part must always be read an octave lower than the two upper parts, in order to maintain the proper distances between the voices.
