Composition -
Three in Five - MLE 34

The modular quality of “Three in Five” gives the music a minimalist feeling of perpetual motion that’s most enjoyable to play. The music is challenging in spots, yet approachable enough for players of all levels to earn First Prize in the 2003 ARS Chicago Chapter Biennial Recorder Composition Contest. This piece was inspired by a very swinging rendition of Take Five, the well known jazz piece by Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck played by the Flanders Recorder Quartet. It was  written for two of the composer’s friends to play with him, on viola da gamba and two alto recorders.
