2025 78th OCLTC Derby – Quepos, Costa Rica

Dear OCLTC Members,
 
The 78^th OCLTC Derby for the first time will be held in Quepos, Costa Rica. Fishing in Quepos can be incredibly good, and our primary target species will be Pacific Sailfish, Blue Marlin, and the occasional Black and Striped Marlin. Our home base will be at the beautiful Hotel Parador and World Class Marina Pez Vela.

DERBY FORMAT AND OVERVIEW:

The 2025 OCLTC Derby will feature 24 anglers with 3 days of Derby fishing. Fishing is scheduled for March 24,25, and 26.  Please note, in a departure from previous Derbies, a Fun / Weather Day has not been scheduled due to typical favorably calm conditions in Quepos.  A separate addendum will be distributed shortly with information for those who wish to schedule additional fishing / practice days. The Derby format is set up so we will have 4 anglers per boat with each angler allowed one rod. We will be using 20# test Hi Viz tournament grade line and it will be supplied to each participant prior to the tournament.
 
SOCIAL EVENTS:
We will have opening dinner on Sunday March 23rd. A dockside Cocktail Party will be held on Tuesday, March 25. The closing dinner will take place on Wednesday March 26. Meals on other days will be “on your own”.
 
HOTEL:
The beautiful Hotel Parador will serve as our lodging headquarters of choice.  Parador has been the long term host of events such as the IGFA World Championship among other major events.  The hotel encompasses beautiful grounds, restaurants, pools, spa, gym, among other amenities.  We have secured rooms at 10% discount from standard rates (see attached summary of room offerings).  Reservations should be made individually by each Derby Participant directly with the hotel.  When making your reservations, please specify you are with the  “Ocean City Light Tackle Club Block #61253” when making reservations.  Reservations may be made directly with the hotel by calling +506-2777-1415.  Daily shuttles to and from Marina Pez Vela are included in your entry fee.

BOATS:
We have procured the service of Marina Pez Vela Sportfishing Charters for boat arrangements. Boats will be 36’ to 45’ Sport fishers.
 
COST:
The basic cost of the derby is $4,200 for anglers and $600 for non-fishing guests. This includes all Derby fishing, Opening and Closing Dinners, Cocktail Party, all airport transfers, and Marina / Hotel shuttles while in Quepos. This is a very guest-friendly location and we look hope you will bring a companion to enjoy the fantastic things that this Costa Rican location has to offer.
 
Your registration is based upon the date your payment is received.   
 
If we have more interest than 24 anglers and need more boats and rooms, we will do our best to arrange additional boats and rooms, but rates could be higher. As in previous Derbies, any anglers over the maximum of 24 will be accepted in groups of 4 only or put on a waiting list. As per the club by-laws, we will open the registration to non-member anglers 30 days after this announcement and dependent on available angler slots.
 
We will be requiring two payments for this derby. A deposit payment of $2,100 is required to reserve a place in the derby and is due upon registration. The second payment of $2,100 is due by August 1^st.  Although only the first payment is due at time of registration, you can certainly pay the entire fee at that time.
 
Should you have a change in plans and cannot attend, it is the derby participant’s responsibility to assist with sourcing a suitable replacement. When you find another member to take your place and it is approved by the Derby Chairman, you will be responsible for collecting any fees you have paid from your replacement.
