This year’s event will feature panelists including pretreatment coordinators, contract laboratories, and consultants who will facilitate a group discussion and raise awareness on timely and important pretreatment and regulatory topics for both POTWs/Pretreatment Programs and Industries alike.

 Mike Tucker
(Environmental Compliance Coordinator - Fox Metro Water Reclamation District)

 
Mike began his career in wastewater/pretreatment in 2016 with Fox Metro. For the first 4 years I as a technician, primarily tasked with conducting industrial sampling, industry inspections, and food service establishment (grease trap) inspections as part of our FOG Program. I have been the supervisor for the department the last 5 years, in which time the department has taken on more compliance tasks for the district such as biosolids monitoring and reporting, permit renewals, emissions permit compliance, stormwater sampling and reporting, Fox River monitoring, and coordinating various special studies involved with the POTW and collection system.

Heather Sanchez
(Supervising Environmental Specialist - Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago )

 
Heather Sanchez has been with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for 21 years. The MWRD’s pretreatment program employs 101 people who are organized by three areas of expertise. In her role as Supervising Environmental Specialist, Heather’s expertise in fieldwork is applied to the management of program elements relating to the sampling and inspection of industrial users throughout Cook County.

John Riley
(CEO - Teklab Inc.)


John started his journey at Teklab in 1992 in the inorganic department, where he conducted analyses such as BOD, COD, and TSS. In 1995, he transitioned to field services, working hands-on with wastewater treatment plants and deepening his expertise through courses at ERTC and plant tours. In 1999, John shifted to sales, where he excelled at building lasting relationships with municipal and industrial wastewater clients. Today, as CEO of Teklab, John has significantly enhanced the company’s capabilities and capacity, ensuring it stays ahead of changing regulations and continues to deliver exceptional service to its clients.

Nichie Schaeffer
(Environmental Department Manager - Baxter & Woodman.)

 
Nichie Schaeffer, PE, BCEE is the IWEA Pretreatment Committee Chair and a former Chair of the IWWSG.  As the Environmental Department Manager at Baxter and Woodman, Inc., she directs a dynamic team whose principal focus is supporting POTWs with the administration and implementation of pretreatment program components and wastewater NPDES Permit regulatory requirements. Being a pretreatment subject matter expert, she has given technical presentations at professional conferences across the Midwest and virtually to national audiences, the latest being at the 2024 NACWA Virtual Pretreatment Workshop.
