ARS Announces New Educational Outreach Grant Program
Recorder teachers, it is time to apply for an Educational Outreach Grant for the 2015-2016 school year! The ARS would love to help you start a new recorder program or subsidize an existing program in your school, or perhaps we can help you receive further recorder education by helping you attend a recorder teacher workshop. Submit your application between May 1, 2015 and June 15, 2015 in order to be considered for a grant. All applications will be reviewed by the ARS Scholarships and Grants Committee. Our typical grants range from $100-$500.

ARS Announces Susan Burns as New Administrative Director
The ARS is delighted to welcome Susan Burns, our new Administrative Director. Susan lives in Charlotte, NC and is the proud parent of two teenagers, two cats and a rescue dog. She has played and taught recorder, dulcian and flute for a several years, and is a longstanding member of the Charlotte Waites, a Renaissance wind band. Susan has many years of experience working with non-profit organizations. In 2001 she co-founded the Piedmont Progressive Preschool; fourteen years later she still serves on its board, and the preschool has been used as a model for other start-up schools. She comes to the ARS from The Bag Lady, a bookstore and gift shop in Charlotte, where her position as Manager included bookkeeping, hiring, inventory and other responsibilities. The search committee was impressed with Susan’s qualifications, and also with her upbeat personality and her enthusiasm for this new opportunity. She brings to the ARS excellent administrative skills and a warm interest in people. She welcomes the chance to interact with as many ARS members as possible, and we all look forward to working with her. Welcome, Susan!

Through a wide array of acclaimed performances, exciting and educational events, and Grammy-nominated opera recordings, BEMF has earned its place as North America’s premier presenting organization for conservators and performers of music of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods and has secured Boston’s reputation as “America’s early music capital” (The Boston Globe).
